The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) is an international standard for describing language ability. It describes language ability on a six-point scale, from A1 for beginners, up to C2 for those who have mastered a language. The widely used Council of Europe’s Common European Reference Framework for Languages (CEFR) defines different levels of language proficiency to make the evaluation of language skills more transparent and easier to compare. These CEFR levels correspond to the ten Berlitz levels. A 4-skills (Listening, Reading, Writing & Speaking) exam in English, aligned to the B1 level of the CEFR*.
